The Mercury Cougar was produced on the Torino style frame/body from 1974 to 1979. The Cougar, and specifically the Cougar XR-7, usually had a wide assortment of standard and optional features that exceeded that of the plush Ford Elite or the Gran Torino Brougham (or the LTD II Brougham in later years). The Cougar has the same body lines as the Ford Elite, and was marketed as a high-end mid size car that could compete with the Ford Thunderbird. For codes and options, the information that is provided in the respective Mercury Montego section should provide ample support.
