1971 Montego

The 1971 Mercury Montego was basically a carryover from 1970 with the

exception of the grille being toned down a bit in a criss-cross pattern.

Wheel lip and window moldings were now standard on base models. In the

drive train department, the compression ratios dropped quite a bit and the

selection of engines decreased.

MONTEGO: Base engine was still the 250ci Inline 6.

MONTEGO MX: The MX had chrome rocker panels and MONTEGO in script on the

rear quarter panel. The main interior differences between the base model

and the MX was it was a bit plushier.

MONTEGO MX BROUGHAM: The Brougham had upper body pin stripes and Deluxe

wheel covers. In the interior, the door panels had wood grained trim with

chrome. On the wagons, a dual action tailgate was standard.

CYCLONE SPOILER: The body stripes were a bit higher on the body, the base

engine was the 429 4V, and it came with hub caps w/ trim rings, Traction Loc

differential, and a 3.25:1 rear axle as standard.
