1970 Door Data Plate
(Vehicle Certification Label)

The Vehicle Certification Label (V.C. Label) is affixed on the left front door lock face panel or door pillar. The upper half of the label contains the name of manufacturer, month and year of manufacture, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR), and the certification statement.

The V.C. label also contains the Vehicle Identification Number. This number is also used for warranty identification of the vehicle. The first number indicates the model year. The letter following the model year number indicates the manufacturing assembly plant. The next two numbers designate the Body Serial Code followed by a letter expressing the Engine Code. The last six digits of the Vehicle Identification Number indicate the Consecutive Unit Number of each unit built at each assembly plant. The Consecutive Unit Numbers begin at 100,001 for Ford Torino, Ranchero and Elite.
