Located on the lower driver side corner of the dash at the front windshield.

OFFICIAL VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER: The official Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for title and registration purposes is stamped on a metal tab that is fastened to the instrument panel close to the windshield on the driver's side of the car and is visible from outside.
 

Model Year Code:

This is the model year of the vehicle. For 1972 it should be "2".

Series Code:

Note that only the first two digits will be shown on the VIN (for example 65 will be shown on the VIN instead of 65D). This will tell you the body type, but not the style. To find the style (Torino, Gran Torino, etc) the full 3-digit code is show on the Door Data Plate.

Sequence numbers begin with 100,001 on up for Torinos and Elites.
